About Hydatina zonata (Lightfoot), 1786

The shell of Hydatina zonata shares the same shape as that of Hydatina physis. It is distinguished by thin, thick, irregular brown lines that cross the translucent white shell, running essentially parallel to the shell’s outer lip. Colorless spiral bands are present around the base and apex of the shell. The soft body parts of the animal vary in color, ranging from a pale translucent, nearly white form to a dark pinkish brown form that has white edges. The species reaches a length of 40 mm. Hydatina zonata is distributed across the Indo-Pacific region.
