Hybos culiciformis (Fabricius, 1775) adults measure between 3.5 and 5.5 mm in length. This species has large yellowish thoracic setae, a row of setae along its mid femur, and strong setae on its mid tibiae. Its mesonotum has a fine dusty coating. Adults fly from June through September, and feed on small insects. This species is widespread across Europe and the Near East, and it is typically found at woodland edges and on hedgerows.
