Huechys sanguinea is a small, strikingly colored species of cicada. Adults reach a length of around 20 millimetres (0.79 inches). The species has a deep scarlet basic body color, paired with smoky-grey wings; its proboscis and limbs are deep black. These cicadas typically emerge synchronously every April. The specific epithet sanguinea comes from the Latin word sanguis, meaning blood. This species is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia. Its confirmed native range includes India, Myanmar, southern China (including Hainan Island), Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, the Malay Peninsula, Borneo, Singapore, Sumatra, and Timor.
