Hoya pubicalyx Merr. is sometimes mistaken for Hoya carnosa. It has succulent, lance-shaped leaves and grows as a vining epiphyte. It is cultivated as a houseplant in temperate climates, and variegated varieties are available from nurseries. The flowers of this plant appear on the Philippine five-centavo coin of the New Generation Currency Series.
