About Hovea chorizemifolia DC.
Hovea chorizemifolia DC. is an erect, slender, prickly shrub that typically grows to 0.1 to 0.6 metres (0 to 2 ft) tall, and has needle-shaped, hairy stems. Its leaves are arranged alternately, are flat and hairy, measure 20โ80 mm (0.79โ3.15 in) long and 4.5โ5.5 mm (0.18โ0.22 in) wide, and are borne on a pedicel 4.5โ6.5 mm (0.18โ0.26 in) long. The calyx is 6โ7.2 mm (0.24โ0.28 in) long and covered in simple hairs. The purple-blue corolla is 12.5โ18.5 mm (0.49โ0.73 in) long, with purple or blue markings. The standard petal is 10โ17.5 mm (0.39โ0.69 in) long and smooth, the petals called wings are 9.5โ15 mm (0.37โ0.59 in) long, and the keel petal is 7โ7.5 mm (0.28โ0.30 in) long and smooth. Flowering takes place from May to October, and the fruit produced is a round pod. This species grows on hills, breakaways, and granite outcrops in the South West, Peel, and Great Southern regions of Western Australia. It occurs in sandy and gravelly lateritic soils, and is often found as a member of jarrah forest communities.
