About Houstonia longifolia Gaertn.

Houstonia longifolia Gaertn. grows from a basal rosette of leaves that produces upright stalks. These stalks are usually 20 centimeters (8 inches) tall, and may sometimes grow taller. The stalks are slender and branching, and bear small white flowers with four petals each. The original basal rosette of leaves withers away before the plant's flowers bloom. Opposite leaves grow at regular intervals along the stems instead. Flowering lasts for about one month, occurring in late spring and summer. This plant prefers growing conditions of full or partial shade, and either dry or mesic moisture levels.
