About Hottentotta jayakari (Pocock, 1895)

Hottentotta jayakari has the typical body appearance of the buthid scorpion group, and its species identification is based on coloration. The scorpion's sting, pedipalps, and cephalothorax are all black. A black to dark yellow color gradient occurs across both extremities, specifically on the femur and sting segments. The scorpion's legs are bright yellow, which creates a strong color contrast with darker body parts. Like all scorpions, this species' body glows under ultraviolet light. The body, excluding the stinger, reaches 50 mm in length; including the stinger, the total maximum length reaches 90 mm.
