About Hosta plantaginea (Lam.) Asch.

Hosta plantaginea (Lam.) Asch., commonly known as fragrant plantain lily or August lily, is a flowering plant species in the family Asparagaceae. It is native to southeast and south-central China, and has become a garden escapee in scattered locations across the world. This species, along with all cultivars and hybrids bred from it, is the only group of fragrant hostas. In the wild, this plant most often grows in the herb layer of mountain forests at elevations below 2000 meters.
