About Horizocerus albocristatus cassini (Finsch, 1903)
The western long-tailed hornbill, scientific name Horizocerus albocristatus, is a hornbill species that belongs to the Bucerotidae family. It inhabits humid forests located in West Africa. This species was previously classified as conspecific with the eastern long-tailed hornbill (Horizocerus cassini), and both were previously given the shared English name "white-crested hornbill". The western long-tailed hornbill has a large range across West Africa, where it occurs from southern Sierra Leone, extending east to Benin. Its distribution includes Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, and Togo. It is a frequent species across parts of its range. While the total size of its population is difficult to estimate, the western long-tailed hornbill is not considered to be a threatened species.
