About Homalodisca liturata Ball, 1901

Homalodisca liturata, which has the common names smoketree sharpshooter and lacertate sharpshooter, is a species of leafhopper that is native to North America. This leafhopper can use a variety of plant species as hosts, and it prefers the desert smoketree Psorothamnus spinosus when this host is available. It is a comparatively large leafhopper, reaching approximately 13 millimeters in length. Like other species in its genus Homalodisca, it is a documented vector of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa. Both male and female smoketree sharpshooters are known to produce acoustic signals.
