About Holothuria arguinensis Koehler & Vaney, 1906
Holothuria arguinensis Koehler & Vaney, 1906 is a species of sea cucumber that belongs to the family Holothuriidae and the subgenus Roweothuria. This species occurs in waters of the northeast Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. Scholarly research notes that Holothuria arguinensis is actively expanding its range and colonizing the south-eastern coast of Spain. It inhabits sandy areas and seagrass beds in shallow waters, and can be found at depths up to 52 meters. It has a rigid, somewhat cylindrical body. Mature specimens can reach 35 centimeters in length and weigh up to 270 grams. Spawning takes place from summer to autumn. Reproductive success depends on environmental factors, primarily daylight availability and water temperature; other likely influencing factors include food abundance, tidal flow, and water salinity. This species is a fished resource and is in demand in Asian markets.
