About Holorusia hespera Arnaud & Byers, 1990

Holorusia hespera, commonly called the giant western crane fly, is a species of crane fly belonging to the family Tipulidae. This species is found in western North America. It is the largest species of crane fly native to North America; its wings can reach a length of 40 mm (1.6 in). The glossy, amber-colored wings of H. hespera have no wing interference patterning, a feature thought to result from the thickness of the wings. The wing surfaces have texture from ridging and folds, and their amber coloration is uniform across the entire wing surface.
