Holopneustes purpurascens, scientifically described by A. Agassiz in 1872, is a species of sea urchin. It is native to southeastern Australia. Fully grown adult individuals of this species reach roughly the size of a golf ball, and have a characteristic purple or lavender body color. Individuals of this species can sometimes be found wrapped in kelp or seagrass.
