About Holopneustes inflatus (A.Agassiz, 1872)

Holopneustes inflatus, commonly called the pink sea urchin or sea grass sea urchin, is a species of sea urchin belonging to the family Temnopleuridae. This species is found in southern Australia, specifically in the regions of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Western Australia and Tasmania. Its natural habitat includes intertidal rocky areas and coastal waters down to a maximum depth of 75 metres, and it is often seen living among kelp. It is a small, delicate sea urchin that feeds on a variety of plants and dead animals. The diameter of its test can reach up to 5 centimetres; tests are typically brightly coloured and covered in fine tubercles. Its spines are less than 5 millimetres long, and may be coloured orange, dark red, pink or yellowish.
