About Hololepta aequalis Say, 1825

Hololepta aequalis is a species of beetle in the Histeridae family. It can be found in the North American countries of Canada and the United States, where it lives at elevations between 525 and 1,370 metres (1,722 and 4,495 ft). This beetle feeds on dead poplars, and in addition to poplars, it also feeds on dead pines, dead willows, and dead tulips, especially Liriodendron tulipifera.

Adults of this species have a flat body, with a total length ranging from 8 to 11.5 millimetres (0.31 to 0.45 in). This species has V-shaped annuli, and its palpi project horizontally in front of the head. The antennal lobe of Hololepta aequalis sits beneath the anterior angles of its prothorax, and its labrum is free.
