About Hoheria sexstylosa Colenso

Hoheria sexstylosa Colenso, commonly known as long-leaved lacebark or ribbonwood, is a flowering plant species in the family Malvaceae endemic to New Zealand. It is an evergreen tree or shrub that grows 8 m (26 ft) tall and 6 m (20 ft) broad, with glossy green leaves and white flowers that appear in summer and autumn. Its Latin specific epithet sexstylosa means "six styles". In cultivation, it is frost-hardy but requires a protected growing site. The cultivar 'Stardust' has earned the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit. Its natural distribution spans from Waikato and the Coromandel Peninsula south to Wellington in the North Island; in the South Island, confirmed natural populations occur in North West Nelson, inland Marlborough and the Banks Peninsula. Any additional recorded populations may be naturalised.
