About Hodgsonius phoenicuroides (J.E.Gray & G.R.Gray, 1847)

The white-bellied redstart, scientifically known as Hodgsonius phoenicuroides (J.E.Gray & G.R.Gray, 1847) and previously classified as Luscinia phaenicuroides, is a bird species belonging to the Muscicapidae family. It is found in Bhutan, China, India, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan, Thailand, and Vietnam, and its natural habitat is temperate forests. Previously, the white-bellied redstart was the only species placed in the genus Hodgsonius. A large 2010 molecular phylogenetic study found that this species formed part of a clade that also included the common nightingale. As a result of this finding, the species was moved to the genus Luscinia.
