About Hirundo lucida Hartlaub, 1858

The red-chested swallow, scientifically named Hirundo lucida, is a small non-migratory passerine bird. It is found in West Africa, the Congo Basin, and Ethiopia. This species has a long, deeply forked tail and curved, pointed wings. It was previously classified as a subspecies of the barn swallow, which it closely resembles. However, adult red-chested swallows are slightly smaller than the migratory barn swallow, and also have a narrower blue breast band and shorter tail streamers. Juvenile red-chested swallows are more similar in appearance to young barn swallows.
