Hirudo verbana Carena, 1820 is a species of leech. For a long time, this species was used as a medicinal leech and classified under the scientific name Hirudo medicinalis. It has only recently been recognized as a separate species, distinct from the traditional European medicinal leech that bears the name H. medicinalis.
