About Himacerus apterus (J.C.Fabricius, 1798)

This species is scientifically named Himacerus apterus (J.C.Fabricius, 1798). Males of the species measure 8โ€“10.5 millimetres (0.31โ€“0.41 in) in length, while females measure 9โ€“11.5 millimetres (0.35โ€“0.45 in). It has black connexivum, orange-red spots, and reddish-brown wings. Its wingspan is 8โ€“10 millimetres (0.31โ€“0.39 in). It is distributed across most of Europe, as well as southern and central Asia. This species was recorded in eastern Nova Scotia between 1943 and 1989. In terms of ecology, adult Himacerus apterus lay eggs on plant stems in late summer; the eggs hatch in spring. Larvae can be found from May to August.
