About Hieracium paniculatum L.

Hieracium paniculatum, commonly known as the Allegheny hawkweed, is a North American plant species. It is classified in the tribe Cichorieae, which belongs to the family Asteraceae. This species grows exclusively in eastern United States and eastern Canada. Its range extends from Nova Scotia in the east westward to Ontario, Michigan, and Indiana, and southward as far as Georgia. Hieracium paniculatum is an herb that can reach up to 90 cm (3.0 ft) in height. Most of its leaves grow along the plant stem, with only a small number forming a rosette at the base of the plant. Individual leaves can grow up to 150 mm (5.9 in) long, and they sometimes have teeth along their edges. A single stem of this plant can sometimes produce up to 50 flower heads arranged in a flat-topped cluster. Each flower head contains 8 to 30 yellow ray flowers, and does not produce any disc flowers.
