About Heuchera parviflora Bartl.
Heuchera parviflora Bartl. is a species of flowering plant in the saxifrage family, with common names cave alumroot and littleflower alumroot. It is native to the eastern United States, and its range is primarily concentrated in the Ozark Mountains, Appalachian Mountains, and Cumberland Plateau. This species grows in deeply shaded habitats such as under rock overhangs and along cliffs, in locations that almost never receive direct sunlight. It is often the only vascular plant present in this specific habitat. Heuchera parviflora is an uncommon species across its entire native range. It produces flowers from late summer through fall. Two varieties of this species have been formally described, and these varieties are sometimes treated as separate distinct species. The first, Heuchera parviflora var. parviflora, is native to the Appalachian Mountains and the Interior Low Plateaus. The second, Heuchera parviflora var. puberula, is native to the Ozark Mountains. Heuchera parviflora is a distinct species separate from the similarly named Heuchera parvifolia that grows in the western United States.
