About Heterotheca camporum (Greene) Shinners
Heterotheca camporum, commonly called lemonyellow false goldenaster, is a North American flowering plant species belonging to the Asteraceae family. This species grows only in the central United States, with its primary distribution covering the Ozarks, the Cumberland Plateau, and the middle Mississippi Valley. While there have been reports of populations in the Northeast, the Southeast, and the Great Lakes region, these are thought to be waifs or naturalized introductions. Heterotheca camporum is a perennial herb that can reach up to 150 centimeters (5 feet) in height, and spreads via underground rhizomes. A single clone can produce up to 100 stems. Each stem can bear between 1 and 24 flower heads arranged in flat-topped clusters. Each flower head holds 16–38 ray florets, which surround 23–66 small disc florets at its center.
