This flowering plant, currently classified as Hesperochiron californicus (Benth.) S.Watson, is also known under the synonym Hesperochiron nanus. It is a species of flowering plant native to an area ranging from the western United States to northern Mexico, including Baja California. The genus Hesperochiron is placed in the family Hydrophyllaceae. The species was first described by John Lindley in 1824 under the name Nicotiana nana.
