About Hesperia sassacus Harris, 1862

The wingspan of Hesperia sassacus Harris, 1862 ranges from 25 to 30 mm. Adults fly from late May to early July. This species is distributed in the northeastern United States. In Canada, it occurs in southwestern New Brunswick, and across a wide band extending from the Eastern Townships of Quebec to southern Manitoba. The larvae of this species feed on nodding fescue (Festuca obtusa), poverty grass (Danthonia spicata), panic grass (Panicum), as well as species from the genera Bouteloua, Andropogon, Aristida, and other species in the Poaceae family.
