Its known distribution spans multiple regions: in the United States, it occurs from South Carolina to Florida, extending west to Texas; it is also found in Central America, South America, the Andaman Islands, India, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Kenya, Réunion, Madagascar, Mauritius, Saint Helena, the Seychelles, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sudan, the Gambia, Yemen, and Zambia. The larvae of this species feed on grass leaves.
