About Herophila tristis (Linnaeus, 1767)
Herophila tristis is a species of longhorned beetle belonging to the family Cerambycidae. Carl Linnaeus first described this species in 1767, when it was originally placed in the genus Cerambyx. This beetle is found in Italy, Romania, Austria, Bulgaria, Crete, Croatia, Sardinia, France, Greece, Serbia, Montenegro, Corsica, Sicily, Hungary, Slovenia, Albania, and Turkey. The adult beetle feeds on Morus alba, Ficus carica, and Robinia pseudoacacia. Adult Herophila tristis measure between 13 and 26 mm in length, and their overall lifespan ranges from 2 to 3 years. Larvae of this species feed under the bark of various broad-leaved trees, most commonly Ficus carica, which is widely known as the fig tree. Adult H. tristis hide during the day and become active at dusk.
