About Herina frondescentiae (Linnaeus, 1758)
Herina frondescentiae (Linnaeus, 1758) is a species of picture-winged fly belonging to the genus Herina, in the family Ulidiidae. It is a wetland species that reaches approximately 3–4 millimetres (0.12–0.16 in) in length. It has been recorded in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Latvia, the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Andorra, Italy, Hungary, Romania, Albania, Ukraine, Croatia, Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Switzerland. This fly can be identified by a specific pattern on its wings: four transverse stripes that are fused together to form a shape similar to the letters "U" and "M". For female individuals, the eighth tergosternite is at most 3.5 times longer than it is wide, and the abdominal bracts are oval. Female spermathecae have a distinct oblong-oval shape. In males, the reproductive organs have surstyles that are bent in the middle. Each surstylus has three prensisetae located in its middle section, plus two additional sets of prensisetae on its middle-base part.
