About Hentzia mitrata (Hentz, 1846)

Females of Hentzia mitrata are slightly larger than males, with a body length of about 5.0 mm, compared to males at approximately 4.5 mm. Both sexes have similar coloration patterns. The dorsal surface of the opisthosoma is reddish brown and marked with three pairs of brown spots, while the lateral surfaces have alternating narrow yellowish and reddish stripes. On the ventral surface, there are four narrow, broken, light-colored stripes, which are surrounded by light reddish areas. Hentzia mitrata is widely distributed across eastern North America. Its range extends from southeastern Canada through most of the eastern United States, reaching westward as far as Nebraska. This species has also been recorded in the Bahamas.
