About Henosepilachna argus (Geoffroy, 1785)
Henosepilachna argus (Geoffroy, 1785) reaches an adult body length of approximately 5โ7 mm (0.20โ0.28 in). The pronotum and strongly arched elytra of these ladybirds have an orange or orange-red base color, with a total of eleven black spots: five spots on each elytron, and one shared spot on the pronotal shield. In populations from southern Europe, the legs are orange. Unlike most ladybirds, which have smooth, shiny elytra, the elytra of this species are covered in very fine, short, dense hairs, giving them a matte to fluffy appearance. This species is distributed across most of Europe, including Portugal, Spain, France, Great Britain, Ireland, Switzerland, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, Montenegro, Romania and Bulgaria, and also occurs in the Afrotropical realm. It can be found in areas where its host plants grow, including hedges, herbaceous wastelands, forest clearings, and occasionally in dunes.
