About Hemicordulia australiae (Rambur, 1842)
Hemicordulia australiae, commonly known as the Australian emerald, is a dragonfly species belonging to the family Corduliidae. This species is distributed across Australia, Lord Howe Island, Norfolk Island, the Lesser Sunda Islands, and New Zealand. It is a small to medium-sized long-legged dragonfly, with a coloration of black metallic and yellow. The inner edge of the hindwing is rounded in both males and females of this species. The Australian emerald closely resembles another species, the tau emerald, Hemicordulia tau.
