About Hemiandrus celaeno Trewick, Taylor Smith & Morgan-Richards, 2021
Hemiandrus celaeno is a small to medium-sized ground wētā. This species can be identified by a distinct set of morphological features. The third apical segment of its maxillary palps has no hairs, while the fourth segment is only partially covered in hairs. There is no yellow stripe along the dorsal midline of its pronotum. On the superior prolateras angle of its fore tibiae, there is one medial spine and one apical spine. For the mid tibiae, there are two spines along the leg and one spine at the apex of the superior prolateras angle; the superior retro lateral angle of the mid tibiae has the same spine configuration. Male Hemiandrus celaeno have very long cerci, while females have a very short ovipositor and two lobes on their 6th abdominal segment.
