About Hellinsia paleaceus (Zeller, 1873)

Hellinsia paleaceus is a moth species belonging to the family Pterophoridae. It was first described by Philipp Christoph Zeller in 1873. This moth is distributed across North America, with records from Florida, Mississippi, Maryland, Montana, Texas, California, Nebraska, New Mexico, and southeastern Canada. It has also been documented in Puerto Rico. The wingspan of adult Hellinsia paleaceus ranges from 19 to 26 millimetres, which equals 0.75 to 1.02 inches. Adult moths have been recorded in flight from March through September. The larvae of this species feed on a range of plants in the genus Vernonia: Vernonia gigantea, Vernonia missurica, Vernonia noveboracensis, Vernonia angustifolia, Vernonia blodgettii, and Vernonia cinerea (also called Cyanthillium cinereum).
