About Hellinsia longifrons (Walsingham, 1915)
Hellinsia longifrons is a moth species that belongs to the Pterophoridae family. It can be found in Mexico and the U.S. states of Texas, Arizona, and California. This moth has a wingspan of 25–28 millimeters. Its head is covered in grey scales tipped with white. Its antennae are whitish in color. The thorax has scales tipped with white on its anterior part; these scales are very pale greyish. On the posterior part of the thorax there is a prominent Y-shaped mark outlined in white, with the space inside this mark being grey-brown. The abdomen is brownish grey. The white margins of the thorax's Y-shaped mark continue onto the abdomen as a broad whitish dorsal stripe, which holds three grey-brown lines. The central of these lines has blackish dots along the posterior margins of each abdominal segment. The forewings are greyish along the costa, shifting to brownish towards the inner margin, and are scattered with black scales as well as a small number of white scales. A whitish basal streak runs from the pale anterior portion of the thorax onto the forewing. Both the hindwings and all of the moth's fringes are grey-brown. Adult Hellinsia longifrons are active on the wing in July and September. The larvae of this species feed on Acourtia microcephala.
