About Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouché, 1833)
Heliothrips haemorrhoidalis (Bouché, 1833) is a species of thrips in the family Thripidae. It has three common names: greenhouse thrips, glasshouse thrip, and black tea thrips. This thrips species was first described in 1833 by Bouché in Berlin, Germany. It has a number of synonyms that originated from descriptions of the same species from different locations: H. adonidum Haliday, H. semiaureus Girault, H. abdominalis Reuter, H. angustior Priesner, H. ceylonicus Schultz, and Dinurothrips rufiventris Girault. In New Zealand, H. haemorrhoidalis is one of just four species that belong to the subfamily Panchaetothripinae. H. haemorrhoidalis is broadly distributed across tropical and subtropical regions. Researchers have speculated that this species originated in a tropical area, and was later introduced to many other regions across the world. A list of confirmed locations where this species has been found is available in a table in the CABI Invasive Species Compendium.
