About Heliconia stricta Huber

Heliconia stricta Huber is a species of flowering plant belonging to the family Heliconiaceae. It is native to Brazil, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Guyana, and Suriname. This plant reproduces both through seeds and underground rhizomes. It has been reported to be naturalized in Cuba and Puerto Rico, and is cultivated as an ornamental plant in many other warm regions. Its young leaves and bracts hold water, forming small pools known as phytotelmata that provide habitat for a wide range of invertebrates. Common cultivated varieties of this species include Bucky, Dwarf Jamaican, Fire Bird, Iris Bannochie, Oliveira's, Sharonii, and Tagami.
