Heliconia latispatha Benth., commonly called expanded lobsterclaw, is a herbaceous perennial plant species. It is native to southern Mexico (specifically the states of Tabasco, Oaxaca, Chiapas, and Campeche), Central America, and northern South America (including Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Peru). It has also become naturalized in Florida and Jamaica. Mature plants can grow up to 4 meters tall, and their leaves share a similar appearance to banana leaves. This species produces an erect inflorescence that can reach up to 45 centimeters in length. The flowers, which may be green, yellow, or orange, are each subtended by red or orange bracts.
