About Helicina orbiculata (Say, 1818)

Helicina orbiculata (Say, 1818) is a species of operculate land snail, a terrestrial gastropod mollusk that belongs to the family Helicinidae. This species occurs in northeastern Mexico, Texas, and Florida. Its distribution is concentrated particularly in the northern half of the Florida panhandle, and central Texas, areas that have a more tropical or subtropical climate. It can survive in regions that experience occasional freezes, most likely by burrowing underground and resurfacing when the ground becomes saturated in spring. The species is drought tolerant, though it is less tolerant of drought than some larger, more well-known terrestrial snail species.
