About Helianthus pumilus Nutt.

Helianthus pumilus Nutt. is a North American sunflower species, commonly called either little sunflower or bush sunflower. It occurs in the western United States, mainly in the Rocky Mountain region covering Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado. There are also a small number of isolated populations of this species in Utah and Idaho. This sunflower grows on dry rocky soil in mountains and the adjacent plains. It is a perennial herb that can reach up to 100 cm (40 inches) in height. A single plant typically produces between 1 and 6 flower heads. Each flower head holds 8 to 13 yellow ray florets, which surround 30 or more yellow or brown disc florets.
