Helianthus microcephalus Torr. & A.Gray is a perennial species in the Helianthus genus. It has several common names: small woodland sunflower, small-wood sunflower, small-head sunflower, and is also commonly called woodland sunflower. This species is native to North America, where it grows in open woodlands and along roadsides. It acts as a host plant for the American painted lady, painted lady, and spring azure butterflies, and is also a larval host plant for the silvery checkerspot butterfly.
