About Helcystogramma hystricella (Braun, 1921)

Helcystogramma hystricella, commonly known as the lanceolate helcystogramma moth, is a species of moth belonging to the family Gelechiidae. This species is found in the United States, with recorded ranges extending from Minnesota east to Pennsylvania, south to Maryland and Kentucky, and west to Oklahoma and Kansas. The wingspan of adult moths measures 13 to 15 mm. The larvae of this moth feed on grasses, with Elymus hystrix being one recorded host plant. Larvae roll the leaves of their host plant for shelter, and the species overwinters in the larval stage inside this rolled leaf.
