About Helcogramma striata Hansen, 1986
Helcogramma striata, commonly known as the tropical striped triplefin, is a small fish that reaches a maximum length of 4 cm. Its body is thin, relatively elongated, and roughly cylindrical in cross-section, with a terminal mouth. The ventral side of this fish is whitish, while the rest of the body is red with white stripes running along its full length. It also has white spots between its eyes, translucent fins, and relatively large eyes with an orange iris. This species is widespread across tropical and subtropical waters of the central Indo-Pacific, ranging from the eastern coast of India (including Sri Lanka) to the Philippines, and from southern Japan to the Solomon Islands. The tropical striped triplefin lives in clear waters with moderate current, found from the surface down to 30 meters depth. It is typically found perched on coral or other hard surfaces, where it waits for drifting food.
