About Hedychium flavescens Carey ex Roscoe
Hedychium flavescens Carey ex Roscoe, commonly called cream garland-lily or yellow ginger, is a perennial flowering plant in the Zingiberaceae ginger family. It is native to the Himalayas, Sichuan, and northern Vietnam, and has become naturalized in many other regions including South Africa, Madagascar, Mauritius, India, Sri Lanka, French Polynesia, and Hawaii. This plant can grow up to 2.5 metres (8 ft 2 in) tall. It is extremely shade-tolerant and grows well in a wide variety of soils. Because it can regrow from even small fragments of its rhizome, and these rhizomes can survive crushing, immersion in sea water, and even years outside of soil, completely removing this plant can be difficult. It is classified as an invasive weed in New Zealand, due to its ability to outcompete and displace native and other local plant species.
