About Hebomoia glaucippe (Linnaeus, 1758)

Most populations of Hebomoia glaucippe (Linnaeus, 1758) match the general description, though some subspecies differ. For example, the subspecies H. g. vossi has pure yellow colouration where other forms have white. This species occurs across most of south and southeast Asia, and is also found in southern China and southern Japan. The wings of Hebomoia glaucippe contain glacontryphan-M, a peptide toxin from the contryphan family. Contryphans are active components of the poisonous venom produced by cone snails of the genus Conus. In Hebomoia glaucippe, this toxin is thought to act as a defence against predators.
