For identification: Adult Harrisina americana have narrow black wings that are usually held away from the body when at rest, and they have a reddish collar. The wingspan of adults ranges from 18 to 28 mm, and adult body length ranges from 8 to 12 mm. Larvae have a dark head, and a yellow body with a complete black band across each abdominal segment. Mature larvae can reach a maximum length of 15 mm.
