Harpobittacus australis is an Australian hangingfly species that belongs to the Bittacidae family. This species is found in the southern Australian states of New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, and Tasmania. Adult males of Harpobittacus australis hang from vegetation using their front legs, and catch passing insects with their hindlegs. Its body is colored black and orange, and reaches a maximum length of 2 centimeters. Long claws are present at the tips of its legs.
