About Harpactea hombergi (Scopoli, 1763)

Mature male Harpactea hombergi spiders have a total body length of 5โ€“6 mm (3โ„16โ€“1โ„4 inches), while mature females measure 6โ€“7 mm (1โ„4โ€“9โ„32 inches) in body length. The species' cephalothorax is dark brown and narrows toward its front end. Its abdomen is greyish, forms a relatively narrow tube shape that is especially pronounced in males, and has been described as "sausage-shaped". The spider's legs are pale brown and marked with darker rings. This species is widespread and fairly common across Europe, including Britain. During the day, Harpactea hombergi stays inside a silken cell located under bark, stones, and similar debris. It emerges at night to hunt a variety of different invertebrates.
