About Hamamelistes spinosus Shimer, 1867
The galls formed by Hamamelistes spinosus are modified flower buds. They are somewhat elliptical in overall shape, with gradually tapering stalks, and their surface is covered in typically curved spines. The gall's opening is located where the stalk connects to the main body of the gall. This opening is funnel-shaped, and it is surrounded by a circular ring of tissue. On average, the full length of the gall including its stalk measures 21 mm, and the average width is 10 mm.
