About Gyroporus purpurinus Singer ex Davoodian & Halling

Gyroporus purpurinus is a species of bolete fungus belonging to the Gyroporaceae family. It is found in eastern North America. It was first published in 1936 by Wally Snell, who classified it as a form of Boletus castaneus. A decade after this initial publication, Snell and Rolf Singer transferred the taxon to the genus Gyroporus. Neither of these earlier publications were considered valid under the rules of botanical nomenclature, which required a Latin description for valid publication at that time. The name was published validly by Roy Halling and Naveed Davoodian in 2013. This species is edible.
