About Gynacantha dobsoni Fraser, 1951
Gynacantha dobsoni Fraser, 1951 is a species of dragonfly in the family Aeshnidae, commonly called the lesser duskhawker. This dragonfly lives in ponds and swamps, and is found in northern Australia. It is a large, dull-coloured dragonfly that has a constricted waist on its abdomen at the third segment. It is smaller than Gynacantha rosenbergi, a closely similar species in many other respects. Measurements from 35 specimens of Gynacantha dobsoni held in the Australian National Insect Collection at the CSIRO give an average wingspan of 109 millimetres and an average total length (including appendages) of 78 millimetres. This species is crepuscular, and flies at dawn and dusk.
